Students review the carbon cycle focusing on its qualities as a system. The lesson activates prior ideas about the carbon cycle, students discuss the inputs and outputs of carbon among various reservoirs on Earth, play a game to simulate the movement of carbon, and then discuss the impact of humans on the carbon cycle and the importance of greenhouse gases in climate change.
